MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING (MRI)
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a medical imaging technique that uses a computer-generated magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of the body's organs and tissues.
Most MR machines are large, tube-shaped magnets.
When you lie down inside an MR machine, the magnetic field temporarily realigns the water molecules in your body. The radio waves cause the aligned atoms to produce very weak signals, which are used to create cross-sectional MR images, like slices of a loaf of bread.
The MR machine can also produce 3D images that can be viewed from different angles.
